Abstract:

Advanced analytics and machine learning have been extensively used in finance, insurance, healthcare marketing and more. This presentation is for both technical AND non-technical professionals - it will feature a practical application in the insurance industry that can also be easily extended to other industries. Featured are the advanced analytics and machine learning to predict a claim's future in order to take early intervention to improve claim outcomes and claim handling process efficiency. The data driven approach has provided vital insight to assist claim professionals and help to drive ROI in the insurance industry.

An overview of claim analytics will be introduced first. Then, a claim analytics standard life cycle predictive modeling process will be discussed by walking through a litigation prediction modeling technical process. Thousands of companies' Worker's Compensation claim data with myriad variables are explored. Multiple cutting-edge statistical and machine learning algorithms (GLM Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Neural Network, Gradient Boosting, etc.) incorporated with deep insurance business knowledge are utilized. As mentioned, this process could also be tweaked or directly used in other areas (marketing, underwriting, risk management, pricing, and reserving, etc.) and other industries.
